Security and Safety Insights

Top trends for Q3 2021and beyond (compounded crisis)

Gun Violence. We are experiencing a rash of gun related violence in all realms of society (businesses, homes, public spaces, large crowd gathering). This trend is very prevalent in Texas. It is important that threat assessments teams and a mechanism for reporting concerning behavior (24/7) be created if they are none existent.

Domestic Violent Extremist (DVE) / Racially Motivated Violent Extremist (RMVE). DVEs· growing interest in the boogaloo concept poses an enduring threat to law enforcement and government personnel, given the concept’s focus on impending violent conflict with the government and authorities. RMVEs will pose a persistent threat to religious, racial, and ethnic minorities and law enforcement personnel despite the lack of lethal attacks in 2020.

Crimes Against Children. The FBI’s Little Rock Field Office, and Science and Technology Branch Lawful Access Program, in coordination with the Office of Private Sector (OPS), alerted private sector partners about criminals who use social media file sharing and communication platforms to target and exploit children.
Crimes Against Children (CAC) criminals are creating profiles on numerous platforms to solicit for more minors. There has been an increased vulnerability to minors from online predators during COVID-19. Criminal actors are using technology to communicate with minors for a sexual purpose and to evade law enforcement scrutiny during COVID-19.

Cyber Challenges. Poor infrastructure; lack of resources and capacity; increased exposure surfaces; virtual learning challenges; and working remotely have highlighted the inadequacies and efficacies of our resilience to cyber demands.

Workforce Vulnerability. The challenges of protecting the community includes Cyber vulnerabilities, workplace/domestic violence, mental health issues, and layoffs/furloughs within households.

Natural Disasters. The numbers of wildfires, floods, storms (land and sea), and droughts have and will continue to increased in quantity and intensity.
