🪲 Meet One of North Carolina’s Largest Beetles: The Eastern Hercules Beetle!🪲

If you’ve spotted a giant beetle with impressive horns crawling around your porch or flying toward your lights, don’t panic, you may have found an Eastern Hercules beetle!

Despite their intimidating appearance, these gentle giants are completely harmless to people and pets. The males use their large horns to wrestle other males during mating season, but they don’t use them against humans.

Here are a few fun facts:
🔹 One of the largest beetles in North America, growing up to nearly 3 inches long.
🔹 Most active during the warm summer months.
🔹 Attracted to outdoor lights at night.
🔹 Adults feed on rotting fruit and tree sap, while the larvae help break down decaying wood, making them important recyclers in nature.

While they may give you a start when they land nearby, Eastern Hercules beetles are actually beneficial insects and are best left alone.

🥣 Tiny Moths in Your Pantry?
It Could Be Indian Meal Moths.

If you’ve noticed small moths flying around your kitchen or found webbing inside bags of flour, cereal, rice, pet food, bird seed, or other dry goods, you may have Indian meal moths.
