This load of 4000 plus bf of ash logs is headed to Gridley Hollow Saw Mill, courtesy of Denman Trucking; to be kiln dried, and turned into flooring and trim. Then it is on to Live Edge Building Design in Trumansburg, NY where it will be used in local sustainable homes this summer.

Donn skidding ash with horses Red and Rock while Julia spends some time with the saw. A joy to have some snow on the ground, however fleeting it may be!

We’ve been pretty silent on here during the busy summer season, but we’re still out here working horses and logging when the weather permits. As the end of 2023 approaches, we’ll share a few highlights from our first year in business! We kicked off February with the best skidding conditions we had all winter, working in the Adirondacks with Chad Vogel of Reber Rock Draftwood. He did all the felling, and we kept up skidding with our two horses working single. It was exciting to camp away from home with the horses on the coldest days of the year (a couple -20°F plus windchill nights if my memory is correct). Harvested ~8,000 board feet of cedar- all destined for barrel style saunas and hot tubs- by the end of our stay. Many thanks to Chad for having us out and making sure the horses had an abundance of hay and not frozen water, and to Peter of Sentinel Mountain Saunas for hosting us!
