📍 Population: Just over 10,600 residents.
🏡 More than 82% of homes are owner-occupied, showing the pride people take in calling this community home.

🚜 Farm Smarter. Not Just Harder.

If you’re farming and working another job or just starting to figure out what your operation can really do, this workshop is for you.

MEC is partnering with MU Extension Agent Nick Thiele to offer a three-session workshop that teaches you how to use a farm management tool to:

✔ Know your cash position any day of the year
✔ See your true cost per calf, per bale, per acre
✔ Chase overdue invoices without damaging neighbor relationships
✔ Understand whether freezer beef actually pencils out for YOUR operation
✔ Be ready when your banker asks hard questions

No tech experience required. If you can send a text, you can use this tool.

🍴 Light supper included at 6:30 before each session.
📅 Three Monday/Tuesday/Thursday evenings — July 13, 14, and 16
🕐 Sessions run 7:00–8:30 PM

Regional Commissioners Meet in Marble Hill to Discuss Infrastructure Funding

31 commissioners from 9 Southeast Missouri counties gathered June 24 at the Mayfield Entrepreneurial Center in Marble Hill for a regional meeting on road and bridge infrastructure funding.
The meeting was organized by the Southeast Missouri Regional County Commissioners and brought together officials from counties surrounding Bollinger County to review state and federal funding opportunities for road and bridge projects affecting communities throughout the region. Tony Harbison and Barry Hovis were among the state and federal elected officials attending the meeting, along with representatives from Jason Smith’s office, the Department of Natural Resources as well as engineering and investment companies.
Discussion focused on funding sources available through the Missouri Department of Transportation and federal programs that counties can use for road resurfacing, bridge repair, and other infrastructure needs. Commissioners also discussed how neighboring counties might coordinate on shared transportation priorities and strengthen funding applications by emphasizing regional impact.
Aging roads and bridges remain a significant budget challenge for many rural southeast Missouri counties, where limited local tax bases make state and federal funding critical to keeping projects moving forward.
No formal votes or funding commitments came out of the meeting. Officials described it as an information-sharing session, with individual counties expected to make their own funding decisions as relevant deadlines approach.
The Mayfield Entrepreneurial Center, a Bollinger County nonprofit focused on small business development, hosted the gathering, reflecting its expanding role as a regional meeting site for local, county and regional leaders.
Residents are encouraged to follow their county commission meetings for updates on how the funding discussed regionally may affect specific local road and bridge projects in the coming months.
