Whew… this week is turning up the heat 🔥—even by Arizona standards! We're looking at an average high of ABOVE 110°!!

When temps climb like this, your garden isn’t trying to thrive… it’s just trying to survive (honestly, same 😅). So instead of pushing growth, our job is to help our plants ride it out until things cool back down.

🌿 Hold Off on Pruning

I know it’s tempting to tidy things up, but now’s not the time.

Pruning tells your plant, “Hey, grow more!”—and those fresh baby leaves will get absolutely roasted in this heat. Plus, those existing leaves are doing an important job… shading and protecting the plant from the brutal afternoon sun.

Let them be a little wild right now—they’ve earned it.

🌱 Do a Quick Daily Check-In

Think of it like a wellness check for your plants. Morning or evening is best.

Keep an eye out for:
• Leaves that stay droopy overnight
• Yellowing foliage
• Crispy or brown edges
• That sad, dusty-grey look instead of a vibrant green

If you see these signs, your plant might just need a little extra love (or a break from the sun).

☀️ Give Them a Little Shade

If you’ve got plants baking in full sun or up against hot walls, a little shade goes a long way.

I like using 70% shade cloth over shrubs, vines, and groundcover during extreme heat. Even a few days of filtered light can seriously reduce stress while still letting your plants soak up what they need.

No shade cloth? No problem—get creative! Patio umbrellas, chairs, or even a well-placed piece of cardboard can help in a pinch.

💧 Easy Does It

This is one of those times where doing less is actually doing more.

Skip the pruning, stay consistent with watering, add shade where you can, and don’t stress over a little leaf drop or yellowing—it’s totally normal in this kind of heat.

Your garden’s just in survival mode right now—and with a little patience and care, it’ll bounce back when the temps ease up 🌵💚
