December 2023 marked my 30th year since graduation from law school. The life of an attorney is challenging, but, in my opinion, it is far more challenging for family lawyers. Our days are filled with negativity - breakdown of families, neglect and abuse of children, death of family members, disabled or incapacitated family members, financial losses, and just a whole lot of DRAMA.

Every now and then I get overwhelmed and consider changing fields or careers altogether. It's during those moments that a former, current, or potential client will call me and remind me why God placed me here.

It has been a hectic week and "one of those days", but when I tell you my clients have unknowingly STEPPED UP, that is an understatement. Between the texts and phone calls this morning alone, I have been smiling, lmao, and feeling refreshed!

God assigned me to family law for a reason. Despite the emotional baggage, I am embracing what God has destined, today and every day. So, to ALL of my amazing clients who have trusted me to handle their legal needs over the past 30 years, today I sow into you what you have sowed into me - LOVE, TRUST, FAITH, CONFIDENCE, PATIENCE, STEADFASTNESS, AND A DEEPER ACCEPTANCE OF WHAT GOD HAS DESTINED. I appreciate you greatly!

Ladies, I had to put away my Krispy Kreme doughnuts for this post. Mannnn, they were just getting good, too. 😂 Hmmm, is it possible that our mood swings are a result of that junk food we overate this morning? Could our food choices be contributing to our depression? Yes, that Code Red Mountain Dew kept me awake for my road trip home, but what impact will it have on my productivity tomorrow at work? I don't know the answers to these questions, but it behooves me to figure it out if I am going to remain fabulous in my 50s😎.

DR. MARY ASHLEY will be present at GRM2's Enrichment & Empowerment Women's Conference on Saturday, February 25, 2023, at Tallahassee Community College, to answer these questions and so many more. Dr. Ashley is the owner and operator of Ashley's Herbals and Health Counseling. She is a Doctor of Naturopathy and is also classified as a Natural Health Specialist, Master Herbalist, and Nutritional Counselor.

It is impossible for us to have balance if we do not address the foods that we are eating. LADIES, are your ignoring your mental health? I get it. We are so busy taking care of everybody else that we don't have time to take care of ourselves. But, guess what. If we don't take care of ourselves, then we won't be here to take care of others. Now mull over that! It's that simple!
