Xtrategist, an accounting consulting solutions firm, was founded in 2015 in the metro Atlanta area to support and empower small technology, construction and professional services companies. The firm was established after the CEO and founder noted a high demand and underserved market with complex accounting matters in the metro area. Prior to founding the Xtrategist, CEO researched the market area

and performed various analysis to understand the needs for small businesses in areas of technology, construction, and professional services. We founded the company with a sole purpose "to empower business owners with accounting solutions and provide them with tools to reach financial objectives."

S Corp owners. If you pay yourself a salary too low, the IRS can reclassify your distributions as wages and add penalties.

The standard is "reasonable compensation" for the work you actually do, based on your role, your industry, and your geography.

Most owners get this wrong by under paying. A few get it wrong by guessing.

If your owner salary has not been benchmarked recently, the time to benchmark is before year end.

The Section 179D energy efficient building deduction is ending.

Any commercial project that does not break ground by June 30, 2026 no longer qualifies. That is 28 days.

Still worth up to $5.81 per square foot for energy efficient lighting, HVAC, hot water, or building envelope work. The catch is the start date, not the completion date.

Modeling, contractor selection, and procurement take 6 to 16 weeks. This is the week to confirm if a project on your pipeline still qualifies.

You cannot win a bigger bond with the same financials that lost you the last one.

That is what construction CPA work changes.

Three reports every contractor should review by mid-year:

1. Job costing report. Which jobs are profitable, which are bleeding.
2. WIP schedule. Are over and under billings disciplined.
3. Cash flow forecast. Do the next 13 weeks line up.

If you cannot pull these in 30 minutes, that is the first problem to solve before Q3.

Mid-year is for catching what April missed.

Save this for your mid-year close.

Section 179 plus 100 percent bonus depreciation are back for 2026.

If you are buying equipment this year, the timing of the purchase changes how much you can deduct.

End of year buying is fine. End of year planning is better. Strategic buying earlier in the year is best.

Talk to a CPA before the order goes in.

Most multi-partner firms only have this conversation in April.

By then, the year is already locked in.

If your firm has more than two partners, K-1 planning belongs in your quarterly rhythm, not your tax season checklist.

If your last K-1 was issued in April, ask why.

June 15 is the next quarterly tax deadline.

If your Q2 estimate is based on last year's number and your business has changed since then, you may be over or under paying. Either way, that is money on the line.

A 30 minute review now beats a surprise in October.
