In honor of Juneteenth: this is a painting we appraised of Melrose Plantation by Clementine Hunter, a self-taught artist who lived and worked on the plantation, and began selling her artworks in her 50s. Hunter became the first African American artist to have a solo exhibition at the New Orleans Museum of Art, and her works have a lasting legacy in 20th century folk artists.
