A quick errand in 90 degree weather — or even ONE minute alone — could be deadly for kids left behind in a car. ⚠️👶

Once You Park, Stop. 🛑 Look. 👁️ Lock. 🔒

𝐃𝐨 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐊𝐢𝐝𝐬 𝐊𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐨 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡 𝐘𝐨𝐮?

Summer schedules change, kids explore more, and routines look different.

Make sure your child knows:

✔ Your full name
✔ Your phone number
✔ A trusted emergency contact
✔ What to do if they get separated

Simple conversations can build confidence and help keep kids safe. If possible, have your contact information inside the backpack or somewhere on the child where it cannot be seen unless needed.

See Something Say Something works again!

After a man refused to leave a restaurant earlier this week, the manager called 911 for help. When officers confronted the suspect, he put his hands into his hoodie pocket where the stolen loaded brown G***k 19 was located. Officers could see the outline of a handgun and quickly intervened. The stolen gun had been modified with an illegal “switch” converting it to a fully automatic weapon. A second handgun was located in his backpack, along with some “medicine” packaged for individual sale.

The suspect was taken into custody without incident. He now has a new place to stay, compliments of the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office.

When we work together, our community will always be safer! ❤️

Stay Safe During Winter Travel - Travel during the winter has unique risks, especially if you travel by car. Being prepared can help you “expect the unexpected” so your trip isn’t ruined by common problems travelers face in the winter.

Tips for Winter Travel

- From blizzards, to avalanches, to ice storms, be aware of the winter risks in places you visit.
- Check the local weather forecasts and warnings before heading out.
- Visit National Weather Service for up-to-date forecasts and download the FEMA App for alerts in up to five locations.
- Tell others your route and anticipated arrival time.
- Check your local weather and traffic reports before heading out.
- If your roads are not in good shape, consider postponing non-essential travel until the roads are cleared.
- If you do have to go out, make sure you are prepared in case you become delayed while traveling.

Items for an Emergency Kit:

* Water and non-perishable food (such as dried fruit, peanut butter, or energy bars)
* First aid kit, cash, and prescription medicines
* Extra batteries or an alternative power source
* Matches in a waterproof container (allow an adult to help)
* Paper plates, plastic cups and utensils, paper towels
* Battery-powered or hand-cranked radio
* Flashlights and whistle to signal for help

Winter Preparedness - Let's stay safe this winter season! Join the DHS Center for Faith, U.S. Department of Homeland Security, and Federal Emergency Management Agency in preparing for extreme cold weather.

Risks Associated with Extreme Cold Weather: - Sixty-three percent of temperature-related deaths are attributable to cold exposure.

Home heating is the second leading cause of home fires.
Winter storms may bring power outages that can disrupt things like communications, utilities, transportation, stores, gas stations and ATMs, and prevent your ability to use electrically powered medical devices.

Visit www.ready.gov to identify winter risks you might face and learn how to protect yourself and your family, community and/or house of worship against them.
