On this day in REEL History:

This Reel Participant's Inclusion intersected with the character of John Nash(Russell Crowe) from A BEAUTIFUL MIND.

The Inclusion were: being respected for smarts/brilliance even though I may be struggling with them; allowing me to stay in my seat at the table; I am being excluded from myself by losing my cognitive ability. I am a brilliant person and am separating from myself and my peers in academia. The "imaginary character" or my true self, is trying to keep myself sane. When the character disappears, I begin to accept my own fate and accept who I have become.

On this day in REEL History:

This Reel Participant's keys to growth intersected with the character of The Iron Giant(Vin Diesel) from THE IRON GIANT.

The keys to growth were: You can overcome your programming and your programmed purpose; lean into the empathy; you don't have to "work as intended"; your hardware is designed to do something but your soul is more powerful to overcome that programming; you get to choose who you want to be- superman!; Who you are on the inside matters way more than where you came from...what matters is the choices that you make and the direction you are headed based on those choices; it doesn't matter what decisions were made about you before you came into being.

I was caught by surprise that one of my favorite "popcorn" films of the year was nominated for Best Picture- F1. Of the nominees, I'm also a fan of Marty Supreme and Sinners, for it's depth of meaning. Have you seen any of the nominees? Here's the list:

Bugonia (haven't seen yet)
F1
Frankenstein
Hamnet
Marty Supreme
One Battle After Another
The Secret Agent (haven't seen yet)
Sentimental Value
Sinners
Train Dreams

Every year, I do a breakdown of what the Oscar nominees for Best Picture say about our culture and nation. Last year, the theme was "who will we be?" and the need to defy the "wizards" and "powers that be" to define ourselves...boy, did the word- "defiance" play out all throughout 2025. See what this year's theme is...more info to come...
