Today Sir Stelios Haji-ioannou announced in a press conference the opening of the process for applications for awards to Young Greek Entrepreneurs (visit https://steliosfoundation.gr).

When he kindly invited me to say a few words, I chose to mention four reasons that make me so proud to be a Trustee and a Member of the Board of his Foundation:

1. Working with Stelios is a learning experience and for me also a sheer pleasure.

2. The foundation is totally independent and meritocratic. The Foundation receives neither Government nor EU money and has no debt. Its source of money is Stelios's entrepreneurial activity and limited fundraising from his friends in Monaco.

3. The Foundation is run in a paradigmatic way. It is indeed run daily by Stelios, who devotes to it no less than 30% of his time (!), in a way that is both tight and innovative - as behooves the Founder of EasyJet and a multitude of other companies carrying the Easy Brand.

4. The Foundation is working for a better future. It is designed to run in perpetuity and aspires to serve not just the few but the many- very much as all Companies carrying the Easy Brand, which is owned by Easy Group, belonging to and operated by Stelios.

I'm positive that organizations that strive to learn and understand the essence, dynamics and framework of Purpose will equip themselves with a sustainable competitive advantage.

The graphic below is a known depiction of , which is a fantastic conceptalization of , as is and several others gifted to us by the World`s Philosophical and Religious traditions. Today, the importance of Purpose has gained acceptance in , as much as has been enjoying for centuries in Japan. , however, and its global siblings are facing in the West a new challenge: . The later is invariably based on a subjective definition of " what the World needs" or " what Society wants". Purpose , however, has a moral foundation or is no Purpose at all. One has to do well and at the same time do good by the same actions. In turn, what is Good is not for public realations people to decide ; it does not jump out of the latest poll. It is provided by the same schools of Moral Philosphy that gave birth to Purpose and its siblings and withstood for centuries the test of time.. Many would find the above as too strict and, therefore too restictive and demanding. Well, I am sorry. Good cannot be individually decided and serve to rationalize preferences . Purpose is for champions- it is not about lowering the bar.
