A partner came to me recently with something heavy on his mind. He had an opportunity on the table that would increase his income by thirty eight thousand dollars plus company stock. Instead of being excited, he was wrestling with imposter syndrome. He told me he did not feel like he belonged in the room and that he was not an expert, so he was doubting whether he should take the job at all.

When he asked for coaching advice, I laughed 🤣🤣🤣. Not at him, but at the situation. It slipped out too fast and I apologized right away. The truth is I laughed because I could see what he could not. He was ready. He just did not believe it yet.

I told him something I live by. Get inside the plane. While you are flying it, learn to fly it better. That is how growth works. You step into the opportunity first, then you rise to meet it.

I also reminded him of something we all know but rarely say out loud. Do you know how many relatives, friends, and connected people have been given roles they were not qualified for šŸ¤”

He paused and said he had never looked at it from that angle. That was the moment his confidence shifted.

I am encouraging you just like I encouraged him to take opportunities that make you feel SMALL. Over time you will grow into them and eventually become the giant you always were.

Women are still stepping into new roles without negotiating their salaries, even though the data keeps repeating itself. Statistically many women accept the first offer because they do not want to be labeled difficult, they fear losing the opportunity, or they have been conditioned to feel grateful instead of assertive. After more than fifteen years in the workforce space and hundreds of women served, I have personally met only seven who negotiated their incoming salary. Seven. That is not a reflection of talent. It is a reflection of the expectations placed on women in professional spaces.

The shift begins with strategy. I encourage women to strengthen your negotiation power by fully researching the market, showing your value through your impact and metrics, and if you have other offers share that information while negotiating. I also encourage you to place more emphasis on total compensation instead of focusing only on salary.

Remember, negotiating is not a confrontation. It is clarity and not undermining your performance, skillset, and impact.

There is a particular kind of grief that no one prepares you for. The kind that comes not from losing a person, but from losing the professional identity you spent two decades constructing.

When someone who has given 20, 25, or 30 years to an organization is handed a severance package and walked to the door, the wound is rarely just financial. Your title, your routine, your sense of purpose, your social circle, your sense of being needed evaporates at once. What makes this grief especially complex is that the world does not always recognize it as grief. People say, "you'll land on your feet" or "think of it as a new chapter," and while those words are well-intentioned, they can feel dismissive of a loss that is very real.

The healthiest first step is to let yourself feel it fully not to rush past it. Give the disappointment space. Talk to a therapist, a trusted mentor, or a peer group of others in a similar season. Understand that what you are processing is not weakness; it is the natural response to having poured yourself into something that no longer holds your place. Identity and employment have always been dangerously intertwined in this culture, and untangling them is meaningful, necessary work before you can move forward with clarity rather than desperation.

Once you have honored that grief, the practical work begins and it requires honesty about the landscape you are walking into. The workforce has shifted substantially, and some of those shifts are permanent. The good news is that your experience is a genuine asset. The challenge is learning to translate it into language that today's hiring managers and algorithms recognize.

To anyone that has experienced this or knows of someone who has I am rooting for you to win in every area of your life.

Comp Development & Consulting is honored to build a meaningful partnership with District Judge Tyler Ginn whose deep compassion for youth caught in the cycle of the court system is both inspiring and urgently needed.

I spent time listening to his real court stories of barriers, broken systems, and young people who simply need someone to both understand them and help them to embrace self accountability. s.

Judge Ginn’s empathy and willingness to see the human behind the hardship aligns powerfully with our mission to equip youth with real‑world competencies and soft skills that will open doors to employment, confidence, and better choices.

Together, we are not just talking about change we are building a pathway for young people to rise, reset, and reclaim their future, strengthening our community one life at a time.

I’m very excited about this opportunity! Stay tuned! Judge Ginn truly understands why this work matters.
