September is National Su***de Prevention Monthāan important time to spread awareness, share facts, and empower people with the tools to support themselves and others.
Did you know?
Each year, about 1 in 20 U.S. adults have serious thoughts of su***de, and approximately one person dies by su***de every 11 minutes in the U.S. Men are four times more likely than women to die by su***de, though women attempt su***de more often. Su***de is the 2nd leading cause of death for people ages 10-24.
Warning signs can be subtle, so awareness and early intervention are critical. Opening conversations and offering support may save a life.
CompEAP can be a vital resource for su***de prevention and overall mental health:
We offer confidential, no-cost access to counseling (in-person, phone, or video), crisis intervention, mental health screenings, and referrals for ongoing care.
We can be reached 24/7, and many include support for family members as well.
CompEAP support can extend to issues such as depression, anxiety, work or family stress, substance use, and griefāaddressing factors that contribute to su***de risk.
If you or someone you know is struggling:
Call or text the 988 Su***de & Crisis Lifeline anytime for free, confidential crisis assistance.
Use our EAPās services to speak with a counselor, learn coping strategies, or get connected to longer-term care.
Letās use this month to challenge stigma, foster open dialogue, and make sure everyone is aware of these life-saving resources.
