The State of New Jersey has put together the following information for those affected by the recent Nor’easter – if your home or business flooded last week, here’s what to do next:
The September 25-27 Nor'easter caused widespread flooding across New Jersey communities. If your property was damaged, even if a disaster is not declared, help is available through FEMA's National Flood Insurance Program and the NJ Department of Environmental Protection.

Take these steps:

Safety first: Don't enter your property until it's safe. Don't touch, alter, or discard anything until an adjuster makes a report unless there's a health hazard. You can file a claim before returning home.

Report your claim: Call your insurance agent or provider right away. Don't wait.

Document everything: Take photos and videos of all damage. Keep a detailed log of conversations with your insurance company, adjusters, contractors, and all receipts.

FEMA has a detailed claims checklist and step-by-step guidance for filing flood insurance claims. If your community needs additional assistance, contact the NJDEP State Flood Insurance Coordinator at 609-292-2296.
