Merrick Rosenberg, CEO of Take Flight Learning, shared about how the Birds started as we celebrate National Bird Day.

In 2010, after sixteen years of leading DISC programs, my frustration came to a head. People would sit through a full day of DISC training, nod along, provide glowing reviews, and then, two weeks later, the letters were gone.

I was writing my first book on the styles and felt the solution was to use the whole words. Dominance. Influence. Steadiness. Conscientiousness. Accurate, yes. Memorable, no. I needed something better. Something visual.

Then came a BFO, a blinding flash of the obvious.

People don’t remember letters. They remember symbols. They remember images that carry meaning without explanation. Something that instantly signals behavior.

𝗕𝗶𝗿𝗱𝘀.

In about thirty seconds, the 𝗘𝗮𝗴𝗹𝗲, 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗼𝘁, 𝗗𝗼𝘃𝗲, and 𝗢𝘄𝗹 flew into my awareness and changed how people learn about themselves and others.

Today is 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗕𝗶𝗿𝗱 𝗗𝗮𝘆. A day to celebrate our friends in the sky and to remember that the right metaphor can change everything.
