The log home industry has been my passion for well over twenty-five years. During my extensive professional career with a leading log home producer, I have had the opportunity to play a major role in the unprecedented growth and development of the industry. My many responsibilities within that company have given me valuable experience in dealing with today's consumer and provider of log home produ

cts and services. But it is my experience in dealing with the day to day challenges of operating a prominent log home company as its president and leader that offers my clients the greatest insight into the industry. As a log home industry consultant and backed by a team of leading industry professionals, my desire is to transform my knowledge and experience into practical advice and solutions for the challenges facing individuals and companies in today's log home market.

My tip of the day… Here’s a great example of why you should never caulk the horizontal joint in wood clapboard siding. Water can’t escape and becomes trapped behind the paint. Also a great demonstration of why log homes should never ever be painted! Use a semi-permeable stain instead so trapped moisture can escape and rot can be avoided!

My thoughts tonight are on my old friend, colleague and shooting buddy Tony Huddleston who is battling a serious heath situation at this time.
Tony and I began our careers in the log home industry within a year of each other back in the mid ‘80s. In those days we both handled customer service for our respective companies. We did a lot of trouble-shooting on houses during that time and worked on many projects together. As the years went by, we both climbed the corporate ladder so to speak and our relationship remained strong. If I needed something from him I only had to ask. If I ever got into a bind I called Tony. He was always there… no questions asked. He did so much for me, my builders and my company over the years. So many wonderful memories!
Tony continues to serve the industry and is much respected throughout. I know a lot of folks are missing his presence during this time. My thoughts and prayers are with Tony, Susie, the rest of his family as well as his Perm-Chink family. Get well my friend.

I found this old artifact in an old log cabin awhile back and thought I’d have some fun and see who can identify it. An old time carpenter would have used it… I’ve seen them before but not one this big… still used today but not as common… anyone care to guess what it is?

We’re in the process of restoring the original plaster ceilings in our kitchen renovation. Demoing the drywall that was added sometime over the years… hope to bring it all back to how it looked back in the 1920s.

Preliminary design of cabinet doors for a kitchen renovation on a historic 1920’s house in Louisville. No short cuts… some very complex mortise and tenon joinery as well as haunched bead details. Also trying to color match the new walnut cabinets to old existing woodwork in the home. Really no room for error. Definitely my most challenging build to date. Gonna be fun!…. I think.

Sometimes it just pays to be lucky. My client wanted a custom vanity with the look of this one found on Pinterest... no details on the type of wood or finish used... so I literally started grabbing different types of wood and mixed together whatever left-over stain I had laying around the shop. After only two tries I came up with this. I think I nailed it! Total luck!

Good things come when you least expect it. After searching high and low for several weeks, I literally “stumbled” across this old beam just a couple of miles down the road. After a little cleaning and a touch of oil it made a very nice mantle for the fireplace.

Just put the finishing touches on a couple of doors I made for a custom build. The client wanted the doors to match old original doors in a mid 1800’s farmhouse. A lot more work went into these than I anticipated... really makes me appreciate the old timers.

Visited this beauty at the south end of the county this morning. Built in the 1830’s, this is perhaps the best preserved log home I’ve ever encountered. Owner plans an on site restoration so this one won’t be dismantled and moved to another location. All the logs are in excellent condition so I don’t foresee any needing to be replaced... which is extremely rare. Wish I could have gotten more photos of the detail displayed in the construction of this cabin but the weather didn’t cooperate. Looking forward to checking in on the progress of this project as the year goes by.
