...Funnel Clouds Possible Through Early This Evening...

A brief funnel cloud was reported just prior to 5:20 PM CDT
near Lostant in southwestern LaSalle County. Atmospheric conditions in the area will remain favorable for the development of funnel clouds until about sunset. These funnel clouds normally only protrude a few hundred feet downward from the parent cloud, rotate or spin like a top, and last a few minutes before dissipating.
These funnel clouds rarely touch the ground and typically do not pose any sort of hazard. The atmospheric conditions that these funnel clouds develop in do not support strong, damaging tornadoes. However, on extremely rare occasions, these funnels can briefly touch the ground and produce very minimal, if any, damage.
If threatening weather approaches, move indoors to a place of safety. The National Weather Service will continue to closely monitor the situation.

From our partners at the National Weather Service, each year, more deaths occur due to flooding than from any other thunderstorm related hazard. LaSalle County Emergency Management and the National Weather Service remind you to "Turn around. Don't Drown." If you experience flooded roadways, don't assume that the road is still there. It's difficult to determine how deep the water is and with the excessive amounts of rain we've had, the possibility exists that the roadway may have been washed out. Use an alternate route and arrive home safely.

Storm cleanup will continue throughout the day. To allow cleanup crews and utility contractors space to safely do their jobs, please avoid streets East of Main Street and South of East Bluff Street.

If you are not a resident of the highlighted area in the photograph, please stay clear.

Marseilles officers will be conducting active saturation patrols of the affected area throughout the day.

After the storms and damage our community experienced, we want to take a moment to say THANK YOU to all of the residents who stopped, waved, checked on us, brought kind words, or simply took a moment to say, “Thank you.”

Whether it was ESDA, Public Works, Police, Fire, or the utility crews working throughout town, those words of appreciation meant more than you may realize.

During events like this, there are a lot of people working behind the scenes and out in the field—clearing roads, directing traffic, dealing with downed lines and trees, restoring power, and doing whatever is needed to keep our community safe.

Seeing our residents come together and show their support reminds us exactly why we do what we do.

⚠️ PLEASE USE CAUTION — STORM DAMAGE ⚠️

With the storm that just rolled through Marseilles, we currently have multiple road closures, downed trees, and power lines down throughout the area.

🏠 If you do not need to be out, please stay home and allow emergency personnel, Public Works, and utility crews room to safely assess damage and clear the affected areas.

⚡ Please treat ALL downed power lines as LIVE and stay well away from them. Do not attempt to move or drive over any wires.

🚧 Please do not drive around barricades or enter closed roadways. Conditions can change quickly, and hazards may not always be visible.

We appreciate everyone’s patience while crews work to make our community safe.
