Calhoun Conservation District

Calhoun Conservation District Our community. Our diverse programs provide us the opportunity to assist in the areas of farm, home and education.

Our mission is to serve, educate, and empower our community by providing technical assistance and information to all landowners in all aspects of natural resource management. At Calhoun Conservation District, we believe it is our responsibility to assist the residents of Calhoun County in conserving and protecting the natural resources of our local community that will inevitably make a positive im

pact on the larger community. Calhoun Conservation District was created in 1945 and has been the leading local conservation entity for 74 years. The District partners with environmental and agricultural communities by coordinating conservation projects and programs throughout the Calhoun County and Southwest Michigan. Serving as a local source for individual and community assistance in natural resource management and education, the District strives to provide services and programs to meet the needs of the community. Guided by a locally elected Board of Directors, full-time staff and dedicated volunteers, the District focuses on ground and surface water issues, sustainable agricultural practices, environmental stewardship, education, wildlife habitat, aquatic ecosystems, forestry management, and community projects. A main priority continues to be watershed projects to maintain quality water flow within Calhoun County, by partnering with local, state, and federal agencies.

The Michigan Agricultural Environmental Assurance Program (MAEAP) is an innovative, proactive program that helps farms voluntarily minimize agricultural pollution risks. Technicians provide environmental assessments and cost-share to assist producers in addressing these risks.

Why should you get MAEAP verified?

- Protect yourself from potential legal liabilities by understanding and following best management practices.
- Create a sustainable operation that supports healthy land, air, and water for future generations.
- Develop emergency plans to prepare for the unexpected and protect you, your employees and first responders.
- Use our logo on your products to show your peers, neighbors and community that environmental stewardship is important to you.

Environmental assessments are confidential, voluntary, and free! Schedule your assessment with our CTAP technician Joselyn Ralph via email at [email protected] or phone at 517-395-2087.
