This is a wonderfully RARE Wi******er Model 1895 Saddle Ring Carbine chambered in the scarce .303 British caliber.

Standard for the British military cartridge at the time, but offered to the commercial market with no records of military contracts, this piece was very popular among British Empire hunters, adventurers, and explorers. Although, the .303 British was not a popular caliber in the United States, creating scarcity on the American collectors market.

Today we celebrate the chant, the tradition, and the people behind it. Happy National Auctioneers Day to the many auctioneers who have stood in our sale ring over the years—we’re grateful for each of you and proud to be part of this profession. 👏

Behind every gavel is a story. Today, we're reflecting on how auctions help preserve and share the stories that shape our communities.

One remarkable piece in our current auction connects us to the legacy of Marshall James Henry (J.H.) Clemens of Maryville, Tennessee, who served his community with courage until his tragic death in the line of duty in 1911. It comes with this letter from the Office of Smith & Wesson Revolver Manufacturers, signed by Roy G. Jinks- Historian, confirming the fi****ms details. This letter states the firearm was manufactured and shipped from the Smith & Wesson factory in 1901 and delivered to J.H. Clemens, Louisville, TN. It is one of only 5,811 First Models.

More than a century later, stories like his still deserve to be remembered. One of the privileges of what we do is helping preserve historical pieces and the lives connected to them—keeping local history, sacrifice, and community heritage alive through the auction process. That’s part of the impact auctions can have beyond the bid.
