He earned his Bachelor of Science with a major in Psychology and minor in Substance Abuse Studies from Western Michigan University before going on to earn his Master of Social Work also from WMU.
Nathan focused his first few years post-graduation primarily as a stay at home father, working part time at local non-profit organizations doing advocacy, program implementation, community development, and fundraising while continuing to be a lifelong learner by way of training and classes with a focus on diversity, inclusion and equity.
Nathan has been working full time as a therapist for nearly 5 years, beginning with crisis intervention and primary care integration, then moving into providing ongoing outpatient counseling with a focus on depression, suicidal ideation, anxiety, agoraphobia, and substance use disorders.
Nathan counsels adults of all ages and has a long history of working with people who are survivors of domestic violence, people experiencing reentry from incarceration, and people in the LGBTQ community including experience working with gender dysphoria. As a therapist, he provides a safe space free of judgement where you are viewed as a whole person and an expert in your own life. In his role as counselor, he will help you name your goals and work towards them with compassion and support. Nathan utilizes solution-focused care and cognitive-behavioral therapy among other modalities as appropriate.
