Economic development is all about improving the quality of life in our community. The International Economic Development Council defines it as “the programs, policies, and activities that seek to improve the economic well-being and quality of life for a community by creating and retaining jobs and providing a stable tax base.”

In the past year, there have been two industrial announcements in Martinsville-Henry County. Nathan Trotter, a family-owned tin-processing manufacturer based in Pennsylvania, announced plans to invest $65 million and create 118 new jobs at its new site in the Patriot Centre Industrial Park. Construction on the Tin Ridge facility is underway and expected to be completed by the fourth quarter of 2026.

In March of this year, Fukoku Korea announced plans to purchase a shell building in the Patriot Centre for a new facility, creating 60 jobs and investing $18.9 million. This automotive manufacturing facility will produce rubber damper pulleys for engines and thermal gap fillers for electric-vehicle batteries.

These announcements, along with the continued growth and expansion of businesses already here in Martinsville-Henry County, highlight the importance of both attracting new industry and supporting the companies that call our community home. Together, they strengthen our local economy, create more opportunities for residents, and help build a more resilient and competitive future for our region.

May begins with two closely aligned campaigns: Economic Development Week and National Travel & Tourism Week.

In Martinsville-Henry County, these sectors are deeply interconnected. Tourism drives outside spending into our community, supporting local businesses, generating revenue, and elevating our visibility as a place to live and invest. That momentum strengthens broader economic development by making the area more competitive and attractive for business growth and talent recruitment.

At the same time, strategic economic development builds the infrastructure, workforce, and business climate that helps our community thrive.

Together, they form a powerful economic engine that supports long-term growth and resilience. So this week, we're celebrating their shared impact on MHC.

Construction is complete on the new shell building at Tract 2 in the Patriot Centre Industrial Park, bringing a major new opportunity for business growth to our community. This 100,440-square-foot building is move-in ready and designed with flexibility in mind—it can expand to twice its current size, with the potential to grow even larger as needed.

Built with durability and efficiency at the forefront, the facility offers high ceilings, multiple loading docks, and easy access for large vehicles, making it ideal for manufacturing. The site also includes ample parking and room to grow, sitting on 20 acres with additional land available.

The Patriot Centre is fully equipped to support industry, with strong utilities, high-speed internet, and even its own fire station. The park is already home to well-known companies like Howmet Aerospace, Monogram Snack Foods, and Eastman, and this newly completed building is ready to welcome the next business to The City of Martinsville VA-Henry County, Virginia.
