Natalene's Journey comes to an end.
With sad hearts we have to announce that Natalene passed away. We are still not sure on what happened but we do know she was a Blessing to all. She was a miracle in the fact she defied all odds when she was a newborn. Her mom rejected her, she fought so hard to live, we learned how to put in IV's, gave her all types of medicines, round the clock care for the first several weeks. She was half blind in one of her eyes (she was fully blinded with cattle pink eye for a couple months but with continued medicine- she gained some sight back) When we moved Natalene into the herd- she had a little pot belly that wasn't really normal. She also rested a lot after any activity but she seemed to be doing ok. We noticed her being a little stand-offish in the herd and just didn't seem to grow as quickly, she actually looked like she was loosing. She had been wormed and the normal things you would do for a calf. We found her down a couple days ago in the barn. We blocked it off to the rest of the herd to give her space and extra calf food. She was eating and drinking but didn't want to get up. The next day, she was weaker- wanting to eat but didn't want fluids- so we tube fed her electrolytes, did a bag of iv fluids. Last night, she had a warm full belly before we left her... she didn't wake up in the morning. All we know is that Natalene touched a lot of hearts and will be very missed.
