It’s been a minute since I’ve gotten deep into an organizing project this summer. Most of these last few months have been spent working on home and farm projects and horse showing. But today I got a chance to help out a wonderful community organization that needed a little assistance with their Diaper Bank Closet.

The Mason Community Service Center Diaper Bank collects and distributes hundreds of diapers and wipes to mothers in need. They have an impressive supply of donated diapers in all sizes, from premie to adult, but the over-crowding was making it difficult to truly know what was available.

Today, I gave it the Kelly the Closet Organizer Overhaul and was happy to donate my time for this wonderful community program.

There is only one thing I can think of where it’s universally accepted to own way to many of:
T-SHIRTS

And if you’re like me, you probably only wear about 10% of them on a regular basis. Laundry day will consist of washing and folding the same several tees and throwing them back on top of the stack in the drawer. And what about the other 90%?
Well….. you can’t just throw them away!!
You NEED all those shirts, even if they don’t see the outside of the dresser drawer, like, at all. They might represent something for you, carry a memory you don’t want to forget. Maybe they are a souvenir or memento from a concert, vacation, or drunken adventure and you’re still not quite sure how you got it. Either way, we all have too many damn t-shirts, and that will never change.

Instead of piling them into the drawer one on top of another, folding and filing them like in the picture below gives you a chance to see them all at a glance. Depending on the dimensions of your drawer or storage area, you could organize rows by catagory, color, occasions to be worn, etc. Since I’m a frequent t-shirts wearer, I tend to keep the commonly worn ones towards the front and allow the nostalgic mementos to drift towards the back. When I open my drawer to select a shirt for the day, I can easily see what’s clean and available for me to wear. Less digging for just the right one!

When your space is tidy and organized on the outside, you’ll feel the same on the inside! ✌🏻♥️

Here’s the story behind my sneak peak that dropped Saturday!

This is actually project #5 with a client who is currently in the process of not only moving and settling into a new home, but she is also incorporating her business into the home as well. Priority #5 was getting the home office set up to be a functional and productive work space to run an e-commerce business and have one place for all of this client’s craft supplies.

The big thing here was duplicates! There was double of everything as a home office and business office merged into one. Sorting, grouping, and deciding what was actually needed to stay on-hand vs what could be packed away for use at a later date was our focus as we unearthed box after box of miscellaneous office supplies. Hint: no one NEEDS 20 highlighters, or calendars from four years ago.

The most fun for me is seeing what types of storage containers we have available once they are all emptied! I’m a big fan of getting creative with containers already at our disposal as opposed to running out and buying new if we can help it. And arts/ craft supplies are the perfect type of things to store in small baskets, canisters or even old coffee mugs!

I actually left this client to finish the project on her own, as she still had a stack of personal papers and items to sort as our time was nearing the end. I’m super proud to say she did not loose steam after I left and sent me the “After” photos later Saturday night. I love how a little guidance and motivation can create INSPIRATION in someone to tackle jobs on their own when I’m not standing right next to them!

Time to complete: 4 hours with assistance, probably another 1-2 hours with client flying solo
We said GOODBYE👋🏼 to: two large trash bags of garbage, old records and papers, and a large box of unused misc items that can be donated.
We said HELLO! to: a clean, tidy desktop, a home for all crafting supplies in one room, and organized desk drawers where everything can be seen and found quickly!

A little sneak peak at today’s home office project! Our home office is meant to be a haven of home productivity, whether it’s away from the business office or this IS WHERE THE MAGIC HAPPENS! But if you’re like me, and you don’t actually see the inside of your home office all that much, it’s SOOOO easy to toss unwanted stuff in there and close the door.
