Today at Station 105, the Sacramento Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution presented Heroism Medals to Paramedic Doughty and EMT Slivinskiy for their extraordinary actions during a helicopter crash response on October 6, 2025.
The Sons of the American Revolution is a national organization dedicated to preserving American history, patriotism, and honoring those who demonstrate service and commitment to their communities. Today, they recognized two Metro Fire members whose actions exemplified those values under some of the most challenging circumstances imaginable.
Dispatched Code 3 to a helicopter crash on the freeway, the crew of M6105 navigated against traffic on the 59th Street Bridge to gain rapid access to the scene, arriving to find a downed aircraft blocking all lanes and a critically injured patient trapped beneath the helicopter.
Working alongside crews from the City of Sacramento Fire Department, they quickly assumed patient care and initiated rapid transport to UC Davis Medical Center. During transport, the crew identified serious injuries and signs of inadequate oxygenation, immediately intervening while remaining calm, focused, and continuously monitoring the patient throughout the incident.
Their composure, teamwork, clinical skill, and unwavering commitment to patient care reflect the highest standards of the fire service.
Well done Paramedic Doughty and EMT Slivinskiy on this well-deserved recognition.
