It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our founder and family patriarch, Wilbur Coles Burroughs. Wilbur passed away on 1.8.2025 after a brief illness. During his more than 50+ years in the machine tool industry, he earned the respect and friendship of so many. Wilbur was known for his integrity and fierce loyalty to his family, friends and business associates. He will sorely missed!

What is one thing that many boat hulls, rubber hoses and bullet proof vests have in common?

They often contain the material Kevlar. Kevlar is an incredibly strong and heat-resistant synthetic fiber that has continued to revolutionize the manufacturing industry since its discovery in 1965.

We can thank Stephanie Kwolek for this incredibly impactful invention.

After graduating from Margaret Morrison Carnegie College, Stephanie Kwolek applied for a chemistry job at DuPont, where she was offered the job before she left the interview. This was the start of her 40-year long career with the company. Stephanie went on to receive 16 U.S. patents and save countless lives with her discovery.
