When Serving Requires Courage May 22, 2026

What characteristics come to mind when you think of a servant? Do you think of courage? When Jesus faced Pilate, He displayed great presence of mind and steadfast courage, as did Stephen when facing the religious leaders, along with many faithful witnesses throughout the centuries. Christ-like courage springs from confidence that we have been called by God and are empowered by His Spirit. Where is He calling you to serve with confidence and courage?

So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?”—Hebrews 13:6

Prayer: Lord, You are my helper. What an amazing thought! You come to my aid, infusing me with confidence and courage to serve Your purposes in every circumstance. When fear rears it head, when my faith falters, encourage my heart and strengthen me to serve You courageously. I ask in the name of Jesus, Amen.

When Pressure Builds May 20, 2026

When Jesus went to pray at Gethsemane, He knew the struggle that was ahead of Him. He needed time with His Father, and He needed the spiritual companionship of His closest disciples. Where do you turn when pressure builds?

They went to a place called Gethsemane, and Jesus said to his disciples, “Sit here while I pray.” He took Peter, James and John along with him, and he began to be deeply distressed and troubled. “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death,” he said to them. “Stay here and keep watch.”—Mark 14:32-34

Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You for showing me how to live in every season of life, including times of great pressure. Your example reminds me that when struggle comes, I can turn to the Father for help. Remind me to share my burdens with others, and help me point them to the Father in times of stress. In Your name I pray, Amen.

Trust Starts With the Leader May 18, 2026

Who do you trust? Who trusts you? Jesus showed Himself trustworthy with God and with people. He could be trusted to honor and obey God, and to speak God’s truth in every situation. Jesus demonstrated godly character, commitment, competence, and concern throughout His life. Because of how He lived and how He interacts with us even now, we know we can trust Him. How will you build trust with others today?

Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the works themselves.—John 14:11

Prayer: Jesus, You have poured out Your grace toward me. I know that You have come from the Father, and that I can trust You to lead me in in His ways. I want to honor and obey the Father. Help me to follow in Your footsteps today, building trust with those around me. I ask in Your name, Amen.

Strength for Today May 15, 2026

What do you need today in order to lead like Jesus? Do you need His strength? His wisdom? His compassion? His courage? His humility? Whatever you need, Jesus is able to meet your need. Even if you can’t put it into words, He knows, and He is asking the Father to supply your need so that you can serve Him today. What do you need?

Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.—Romans 8:34

Prayer: Jesus, how grateful that I am that You are alive and interceding for me today. You know my every need, including what I need to be able to live today with a focus on serving others. Thank You for freeing me from condemnation and providing what I need every day so that I may serve fully and freely in Your name, Amen.

Serve Where God Places You May 13, 2026

Where has God placed you? Like Naaman’s servant girl in 2 Kings 5, you may find yourself taken captive by circumstances not of your making. Wherever you are, God is able to use you in the lives of others, just as He did this young woman. Through her influence, Naaman received physical healing and confessed the Lord as God. How does the Lord want to use you today?

Look to the Lord and his strength; seek his face always.—1 Chronicles 16:11

Prayer: Lord, these are good words, good advice. Regardless of where I find myself today, it is always the right time to look to You and Your strength. As I seek Your face, show me the opportunities I have to point people to You. May others come to know You as I praise and serve where You place me. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.

Influence May 11, 2026

Who or what influences your life’s agenda? Jesus’ life reflected the Father’s influence, an influence strengthened and sustained through solitude, Scripture and prayer. He resisted the influence of those who did not understand His call from God. How much opportunity to influence your life does the Father have? In the midst of changing circumstances and daily pressures, what are you doing to keep your focus on God and His purposes?

Jesus gave them this answer: “Very truly I tell you, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does.”—John 5:19

Prayer: Lord Jesus, I long for these words to be true of my life, also. I know that this doesn’t happen by chance. Today, I turn my thoughts toward You, and I humbly come to hear what You have to say to me. In Your name, I ask, Amen.

As One Who Serves May 8, 2026

What is your reaction when others offer you advice? To ask for advice reveals wisdom. To receive advice reveals humility. Paul and Barnabas asked for advice from the apostles and elders. Paul gave Peter advice when he was in the wrong. Peter later affirmed Paul’s ministry. Who do you trust to give you godly advice? Are you open to what God might want to say to you through others?

As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.—Proverbs 27:17

Prayer: Lord, thank You for providing godly wisdom and insight through
brothers and sisters in Christ. Open my ears to humbly listen to what You want to say to me through them, so that I might grow in Christlikeness. I want to be a wise and discerning servant. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.

A Trustworthy Formula May 4, 2026

Who do you look to for wise counsel? Do you believe that God wants to speak to you about the challenges you face today? How do you put yourself in a position to hear His guidance? Jesus evidently knew Scripture well. On a moment’s notice, under severe strain, He was able to meet temptation with wisdom from God’s Word. His thinking was saturated with Scriptural principles and truths. When the time came, Scripture provided the guidance He needed. What about you?

I run in the path of your commands, for you have broadened my understanding.—Psalm 119:32

Prayer: Lord, thank You for preserving Your Word so that I can read it and meditate on it today. Thank You that in Scripture I find wisdom for life, and that I can move forward with confidence when I live in the light of Your truth. Broaden my understanding as I meditate on Your Word, I pray in Jesus’ name, Amen.
