The Federal Inn coming to historic Maumee, Ohio Spring 2022

This project was merely a dream a year ago. A little tid bit I’d share with clients at their dinner parties when asked what I envisioned for the future.

Opening a bed and breakfast has been a monumental dream come true, and I’m giddy to share more about it.

We’ve made it to the weekend ✨ my best friends are in town, I’m participating in a cooking demo on perfecting a beautiful fall galette on Sunday, and the weather is finally getting it’s Fall chill on which means I can light a fire in my fireplace. This is bliss, what more could you ask for?

Even though it was a rainy gray day yesterday, nothing will change the bright and cozy look of cream and mustard yellow in a tablescape ✨ Billy balls, aka those little yellow spheres on stems, are actually my favorite flower. They’re versatile in that you can use them as a stand alone feature or in a mix with other bright or neutral colors, and not to mention, they’re quirky!

A cozy dinner party with lovely newlyweds last night! With the beautiful harvest we’re coming into, it felt only right to decorate with the abundance from the garden. It also felt really good to get back into the art of the dinner party last night, and with great company to boot. I can’t wait to share more about all of the exciting updates I’ve been working on!

I’ve been serving some radio silence around here, but I promise it’s for good measure 😉 something big.. actually bigger than big is on the horizon. For the last 3 months, I’ve been sitting with it, working hard on it, and falling in love with it a bit more every day.

Today, July 7th marks the 1st birthday for Enjoy Zest 🎂 1 year of gathering friends and families, lighting candles, ironing napkins and setting tables, chopping, boiling and sautéing, laughing, crying and working long days. It’s been a weird, learn on the fly, crazy, bizarre and wild ride so far. And I’m loving every inch of it, yes, even the really uncomfortable parts, too. This last year gave me the space to get to know myself, my work ethic, my creativity and my personality better than I ever have in all 28 years of my existence. I’ve failed, I’ve conquered, I’ve learned, and I’ve grown. And guess what? There is still oh so much more ahead, folks ✨

Here I am, a year ago at my first ever private dinner party with 2 strawberry custard tarts. I was so proud in this moment. All of the food I cooked that evening came out like I planned (and worried a whole lot about), it was hot and I was sweaty, and my bangs were sticking to my forehead but I didn’t even think or care to think about it. Because I was in my element, doing what I love, and I couldn’t even believe it 💛

It wouldn’t have been a complete Father’s Day weekend without the annual cherry pie for my dad 🍒 I switched things up a bit (still perfecting the recipe- I’m close!). I did a mix of Rainier cherries and black cherries, added some almond extract in addition to vanilla (we practically drink almond extract in my family), and switched to a different crust recipe! And I have to say, it was deeeelicious 😋
