Maury Vol. Fire & Rescue Station 44 A fire department was organized and donations from the community soon allowed the Association to purchase a fire truck and erect a fire station.

The Maury Rural Fire Association was incorporated on January 7, 1957 to promote the safety and welfare of the citizens of Maury and the surrounding area through the provision of fire protection. Over the years the Association has expanded its services to the community and changed its name to the Maury Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association, Inc. Now the Association is beginning its 66th year of ser

vice to the community with a fire department equipped with 4 apparatus, operating out of two stations to provide fire protection, rescue, and medical first responder services.

Maury Vol. Fire & Rescue responded along with Greene County Emergency Services to a single car MVC near 4582 Hwy 123 N.

Arriving units found one vehicle off of the roadway in the edge of the woods, with moderate damage. The occupant was out of their car.

There were no reported injuries.

The incident was investigated by the NC Highway Patrol.

Maury Vol. Fire & Rescue responded along with Castoria Rural Fire Association, and Greene County Emergency Services to a reported two car MVC in front of 555 Hwy 13 N. with multiple people entrapped.

Arriving units found two vehicles in the ditch, both with extensive damage. The 1 of the 4 occupants of both vehicles was out of their car. The patients were not pinned or entrapped.

Firefighters established traffic control, and worked with EMS to remove the patients from the vehicles and load them into awaiting ambulances for treatment and transport.

3 of the 4 total vehicle occupants were transported to the hospital by Greene County EMS for further treatment and evaluation.

The incident was investigated by the NC Highway Patrol.

Maury Vol. Fire & Rescue, Scuffleton Rural Fire Association and NC Forest Service responded to a reported woods fire near the address of 690 Clarence Moye Rd. Arriving units found a small but rapidly spreading fire in a hedgerow.

Fire units were deployed to protect nearby structures and the fire was quickly contained. It took approximately 1-1/2 hours to completely extinguish and overhaul the area.

There was no damage, and no injuries reported.

Maury Vol. Fire & Rescue and Greene County Emergency Services responded to a reported outside fire at 5644 Hwy 903 N. Arriving units found a pile of construction debris and yard waste on fire.

The fire was quickly extinguished and the property owner was reminded that only yard debris could be burned and that no open burning was allowed during the statewide burn ban.

There was no damage, and no injuries reported.

On Monday, March 30th, members of Maury Volunteer Fire & Rescue, alongside members of Farmville Fire Department, conducted live burn and rescue training using our burn cans.

This hands-on training provides firefighters with the opportunity to operate in realistic conditions within a controlled environment. We are committed to training at the highest level so we can provide the best possible service to our community. By continuously honing our skills, techniques, and decision-making, we are better prepared to respond when real emergencies occur.

Both Maury Volunteer Fire & Rescue and Farmville Fire Department are always looking for dedicated individuals to join our teams. If you’re interested in serving your community, consider becoming a volunteer member and making a difference where it matters most.

Maury Vol. Fire & Rescue responded along with Castoria Rural Fire Association, and Greene County Emergency Services to a two car MVC at the intersection of Hwy 258 N and Hwy 13 N. Arriving units found one vehicle blocking the southbound lane and one vehicle in the ditch, both with extensive damage. The occupants of both vehicles were out of their cars.

Firefighters established traffic control, assisted patients to responding EMS units for evaluation, and controlled spills.

All 3 vehicle occupants were transported to the hospital by Greene County EMS.

The incident was investigated by the NC Highway Patrol.

Maury Vol. Fire & Rescue responded to a reported tree down blocking Moore Rouse Rd. near the intersection with Hwy 903 N. Arriving units found a large limb approximately 12 inches in diameter blocking both lanes of the road. Firefighters closed the road, redirected traffic, cut the limb into manageable sized pieces and cleared debris from the roadway.

The roadway was reopened at 12:39 am.

There were no injuries.
