Ever wondered why some CNC cuts come out glass-smooth while others leave burn marks or break expensive bits? It all comes down to two magic numbers: Feeds and Speeds. ⚙️🪵

When setting up a job on a CNC router or metal lathe, guessing isn't an option. We use precise calculations (and CAM software libraries like Fusion 360 and Vectric VCarve) to dial in:

1️⃣ Spindle Speed (RPM): How fast the cutting bit spins.
2️⃣ Feed Rate (IPM): How fast the tool moves through the material.
3️⃣ Chip Load: The exact thickness of the material slice each cutting edge removes.

Why does this matter?

If the tool moves too slowly, friction builds up heat—burning the wood and dulling the bit. If it moves too fast, the force can snap the tool mid-job! Finding that sweet spot extends tool life, keeps machine operators safe, and delivers a flawless, precision-cut finish every time. 📐✨

Whether you’re working with hardwood, aluminum, or acrylic, mastering the math behind the machine is what turns a good project into a great one.

We’re putting on our rose-colored glasses for SkillRise 270 + the Mayfield - Graves County Senior Citizens Center! ✨

Their Linear Filament workshop brought seniors together for a morning of creativity, conversation, and hands-on learning using wood, string, and yarn to create something beautiful. It’s a great example of what can happen when local organizations share their talents and resources to create opportunities for our community to all benefit from.
