Mayfield Elementary School's school-wide community service project this year focuses on “Getting Back to Basics;" helping those that have been affected by natural disasters.

Mrs. Dobrose, school librarian, has several copies of “The Giving Book,” which illustrates the importance of helping others. She also has pulled together materials on wants vs. needs, basic needs, and natural disasters.

With a goal of teaching students values that will make them good citizens of the world, Mrs. Fickey, school counselor, has challenged everyone to participate. The goal for each classroom is to:
*Learn what natural disasters are and how they affect our world.
*Understand that all living things have basic needs.
*Realize that we as community members can always do something to lend a helping hand to those in need.

Throughout the week, students will be donating and collecting items to achieve these goals. Way to go, MES!!!
