In honor of National 911 Telecommunicators Week, the Mayview Fire Protection District would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the team at Lafayette County's Central Dispatch in Higginsville.

These dedicated professionals are the calm in the chaos—working behind the scenes to answer the call, gather critical information, and ensure first responders can do their jobs safely and effectively. Their steady voices and quick actions make a difference in every emergency, and their commitment does not go unnoticed.

As a small token of our gratitude, Chief White’s son, Oliver, along with Mayview Fire Auxiliary Officers Jessica White and Jaimie Umhoefer, had the pleasure of delivering donuts to the dispatch team this morning! Oliver also learned how they send out tones for Mayview's firefighters.

Thank you to all dispatchers for their professionalism, partnership, and dedication to the communities we serve.

‼️ELEVATED FIRE DANGER‼️

The US National Weather Service has identified elevated fire danger across our region due to gusty winds, low relative humidity, and dry ground cover.

While Wednesday and Thursday are expected to be especially concerning, conditions throughout the week will not be favorable for outdoor burning. Dry grasses, dormant vegetation, and agricultural debris can ignite easily and spread rapidly under these weather patterns.

Fires that start in these conditions can behave unpredictably and move faster than expected.

We strongly encourage residents to avoid outdoor burning this week. Use extreme caution with any open flames, properly dispose of smoking materials, and take steps to prevent accidental ignition. Keep an eye on any brush piles you may have burned recently in the event of rekindling.

If you are considering burning, please reschedule Waiting for safer conditions helps protect you, your neighbors and our community.

Just a reminder for the residents of the MFPD, especially those living within the City of Mayview--The outdoor electronic warning systems (tornado sirens) are typically tested the first Wednesday of every month around lunch time. Because the City has no full-time staff, these tests are provided by volunteer firefighters who are donating their time and the exact test times can vary from month to month. There are two fully operational systems-- one located at the fire station and one located between the City Park and Community Building. The MFPD takes pride in providing this additional service and is committed to the safety of our community and beyond.
