The Alabama sun is no joke this time of year, and we want everyone in McCalla to enjoy the outdoors safely. Whether you’re spending the day at the ballpark, working outside, or relaxing by the pool, protecting your skin and staying cool can prevent serious heat‑related emergencies.

UV rays are strongest between 10 AM and 4 PM, and even on cloudy days they can cause sunburn, dehydration, and heat stress. A few simple steps make a big difference: apply sunscreen regularly, wear light clothing, take breaks in the shade, and keep water close by. Kids and older adults are especially vulnerable, so give them a little extra attention when you’re out in the sun.

Let’s take care of ourselves and each other this summer. A little preparation keeps our community healthy, safe, and enjoying every bit of sunshine.

Staying hydrated isn’t just a summer tip — it’s a lifesaving habit, especially here in Alabama where heat and humidity climb fast. Whether you’re working outside, coaching ball teams, mowing the yard, or spending the day at Tannehill, your body needs steady water intake to stay safe.

Heat exhaustion can sneak up on anyone. If you’re feeling light‑headed, overly tired, or notice a headache coming on, it may be your body telling you it needs water and rest. Take breaks in the shade, sip water throughout the day, and check on kids, older adults, and outdoor workers who may not realize they’re overheating.

Let’s look out for each other, McCalla. A simple reminder to drink water can prevent a serious emergency.

Heat exhaustion and heat stroke can happen faster than people realize, especially to children, older adults, and those working outdoors.

If someone becomes dizzy, confused, or stops sweating, that’s an emergency. Call 911 and move them to a cooler place.

Let’s look out for one another as the temperatures climb.
