Everyone wants to know what is the “best investment”. So and so told me they do “XYZ”. Am I missing out?

The biggest first answer is “there is no ONE investment that is the best for everyone all the time. Every type is good sometimes. Most investors need to utilize several different types of investments at different times in their life.

There comes a time when you need to move things around to get ready for retirement. You want your money in something that is liquid and not subject to loss but some upside potential. You do not have the luxury of riding out a down turn.

However, after you have an investment plan that utilizes several types of investments, you may have some money left over where you can be a little more aggressive. This is where a CFP or Financial Professional can help build a retirement plan that is versatile with LIFE.

No one is the same and you should not blindly follow what “XYZ” is doing. 👍

I just read something that was out of context. Saying that the tax rates many many years ago was 70 percent. So do pretax 401-K, etc TSP, 457, 403B……now to “lock in the tax rate”. NO, not how it works. You pay the tax that is in effect WHEN YOU TAKE THE DISTRIBUTION which will most likely be higher than current rates (mainly because you don’t have any deductions anymore- like kids, etc. mortgage, and the trillion dollar debt won’t help).

There is a saying “why pay the tax on the harvest, when you can pay the tax on the seed”. Huge thought process there.

Post tax investment options: Roth (make sure the investment inside the Roth is strong and you are within the income limits), IUL (make sure the structure of it is sound) after tax annuities, etc.
