The Pennsylvania North East w**e growing region, anchored by the Lake Erie AVA, is part of the largest grape-growing region east of the Rockies, stretching over 30,000 acres along Lake Erie. Centered in Erie County, it features a unique microclimate moderated by the lake, producing over 35+ grape varieties, including Concord and vinifera
The Region: Located along the southern shore of Lake Erie, this area is the heart of Pennsylvania’s grape production.
Unique Climate: Lake Erie moderates temperatures, protecting vines from winter lows and spring frosts while extending the growing season.
The Escarpment: A ridge rises 400 feet above the lake, trapping lake-effect weather and creating perfect vineyard conditions.
W**e Offerings: While historically a major juice grape region (Concord), the area has expanded significantly into award-winning vinifera, hybrid, and ice w**es.
