Most AI engineers are making the same mistake.
They’re chasing every new tool, every new model, every shiny wrapper, and calling it progress.
I get it. I actually tell people to do that at first. Buy it. Try it. Cancel it. Repeat. That’s how you build intuition for what AI can actually do.
But here’s where most people get stuck: they never stop exploring.
Curiosity without direction is just distraction.
The engineers who are winning right now aren’t the ones who tried the most tools. They’re the ones who went deep on the right skills.
Four things I’d tell any AI engineer to focus on right now:
Fundamentals over frameworks. Tools change every six months. Understanding how prompts work, how context windows shape output, how to structure data for AI, that doesn’t expire.
Don’t build things just to show off that you can use AI. Build real workflows. Automate something painful. Save someone three hours a week. Connect AI to actual business outcomes. That’s how you get noticed, hired, and paid.
Learn to talk to humans, not just machines. The biggest skill gap in AI isn’t technical, it’s communication. If you can explain what AI can and can’t do to a room full of executives in plain language, you’re more valuable than ninety percent of engineers out there.
Stack your skills. AI plus marketing. AI plus operations. AI plus sales. The pure AI engineer is becoming a commodity. But an AI engineer who understands business process and can ship a product? That person is rare. That person is dangerous.

Another great session in the books. This time outside the U.S.!

I guess I can officially call myself an international speaker after an incredible event with Brenda Gingerich’s group in Toronto. To be honest, the only real difference was needing a passport to get there and back, but what a fantastic city and an even better group of leaders.

We had a powerful session digging into the role of tech in their businesses. My hope is that they’re able to implement even a fraction of what we explored together.

I became a speaker thanks to the encouragement (and warning) of my good friend and business coach Ken Stibler. Ken, a long-time Vistage Chair and speaker, always told me that speaking wasn’t easy and he was right.

Today I’m leaving Los Angeles after speaking to Duncan Moffat’s incredible group. We had an amazing session digging deep into the tech behind their businesses. Unfortunately, we ran out of time (and I had to sprint to catch my flight), so I missed the chance to grab another picture with Duncan and the crew.

As Ken warned me, when you’re in the room, the real priority is serving the people in front of you. Everything else becomes secondary. And while the overachiever in me wishes I could do it all, I know I showed up and gave them my best.

Next stop… Canada! My first “international” speaking engagement though let’s be honest, they really are just the 51st state, right? lol

Full circle moment today.

I’ve been on construction sites since I was 8 years old, thanks to my dad. He owned construction companies and used to bring me along when I wasn’t in school. He taught me about hard work, discipline, and how to see a project through. Some of my favorite memories are from the times I’d hop in the heavy equipment and drive around after the crews left for the day. Once I even got myself in a bunch of trouble when a big hole with an excavator where there wasn’t supposed to be one :-)

Today, after a successful deployment for one of our oil & gas services clients (shoutout to the incredible teams at Deskside & Konsulere), I couldn’t resist jumping behind the wheel of a 35-ft boom lift.

That familiar feeling brought a big smile to my face. Proud of the project, and grateful for the memories it stirred up. Thanks, Dad.

From One to Many: The Power of Growth & Global Expansion.

What an incredible journey this has been! I couldn’t be prouder of this team—each member has grown not just as an individual but as part of a united force. Hard to believe it all started with just Aidan, and now we’ve expanded to four in Cape Town, one in Joburg, and with our latest hires, we’ve doubled in size!

Add to that the explosive growth of our US and Argentina teams, and our organization is surpassing every goal! The best part? 2025 is shaping up to be our biggest year yet.

Next up: expanding our Buenos Aires team just like we did in South Africa, while continuing to scale our US-based teams. And of course, we’re not stopping there! I won’t spoil it just yet, but there’s one more country in our global expansion plans.

An Unforgettable Night in South Africa!

After a full day of office viewings and meetings, Aidan, our Director in South Africa, and Suné, one of our Senior team members, took me on a little adventure—a hidden speakeasy with no address, just cryptic clues to find our way. Fortunately, Suné knew exactly where to go!

What followed was an incredible evening filled with great drinks, delicious appetizers, and deep strategy discussions about our next big moves. The passion, drive, and determination of this team are truly inspiring. With the right financial support and guidance, they make things happen!
