September 11th always feels heavy to me. Such a horrible day in our history and shows you how evil people can be. It also shows you how people can show up when help is needed.

As I'm sure everyone does, I remember vividly where I was on this day. I was working for a software company at the time and in tech support. My clients that I was calling that morning kept telling me to pray for those people and then would hang up. We didn't have tvs or any connection to the outside world in our building (it was a very locked down facility) so it took us a bit to figure out what was going on. The crazy thing was part of our company was a disaster recovery mobile data center that companies contracted, and some companies in the world trade center had apparently contracted us so we got the call and trucks started rolling out. My department heard about it and we were able to string a cable as an antenna down a row of windows to get sound on a monitor so we could listen to what was happening. It was so scary as we sat in silence listening to the news reports.

I didn't see the actual coverage of what happened for a few days. I avoided it honestly, because it was too immense to think about. After finally seeing the images, it was even harder to understand why or how someone could do this.

Now a days, there are memorials and events and places to just reflect on what happened. My husband's company always volunteers this day, packing meals to fight food insecurity. It helps to have something meaningful to do on a day that is heavy.

I know we will always remember this day. I'm proud that so many in our country find ways to honor those who passed and those who fought to help others on this day. I hope those who were affected directly by this tragedy are supported by their communities on this day and always.
