Friends and Colleagues,

I'm starting a "DID YOU KNOW?" series with thoughtful pieces of information about the 5 core financial planning topics - investing, retirement, taxation, insurance and estate planning! Here's the first!

DID YOU KNOW?? #1 - THE SECURE ACT

Did you know that Congress is set to pass the first piece of retirement legislation in over a decade? Yes, it's called the SECURE ACT and it will be effective January 1, 2020.

Several components of this Act will have a significant change on retirement, tax and estate planning; yet it has largely been flying "underneath the radar" for most financial advisors and planners.

Uncle Sam is increasing his share of our hard-earned money to shore up Social Security and other programs -- to keep the government running. So if you haven't heard about it yet, you should pay attention to this.

For example, a non-spousal beneficiary of your IRA or 401K will to have take distributions in ten annual installments. So they will be forced to pay taxes over less time and at higher tax rates. In summary, your children and grandchildren will not be able to "stretch" their inheritance over their lifetime and ultimately pay less taxes.

Check out this and other articles on "The Secure Act" by clicking below.
