Exciting news to share! 🎉 Sarah Conklin, Ph.D. has published a paper in Behavioral Sleep Medicine. The paper, "Integration of Sensor-Based and Self-Reported Metrics in a Sleep Diary: A Pilot Exploration," explores how wearable devices can be integrated with a traditional sleep diary.

This research opens up new possibilities for understanding and improving our sleep health by combining technology and self-reporting for a better measure of sleep. This work shows that integration of wearable device data into a sleep diary can impact user perception of sleep, sleep itself, and confidence in sleep diary entries. This integration could have big implications for how we measure, treat, and think about sleep!

Huge thanks to the co-authors Jessica (Jessee) Dietch, PhD, Golshan Kargosha, Faith Luyster, PhD, Molly Atwood, PhD, Matt Tenan, PhD ATC FACSM, Gary Zammit, Nilanjan Banerjee, and Justin Brooks, M.D., Ph.D. for their expertise and to all of the research participants for their time and effort.

Exciting research being done on wearable technology and sleep disorders!

This ongoing study demonstrates the feasibility of long-term monitoring with wearable technology in patients with central disorders of hypersomnolence and potentially identifies a digital biomarker profile for narcolepsy type 1. While further validation is needed in larger datasets, these data suggest that long-term wearable technology may play a future role in diagnosing and managing narcolepsy. https://ow.ly/3Z9B50R61Q7

Even if World Sleep Day was a couple weeks ago, healthy sleep is still important 365-days!

Common sleep disorders are:
- Insomnia
- Sleep apnea
- Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS)
- Narcolepsy

If you or someone you know experience any of the following, it is important to seek medical treatment. Recently, wearable sleep-tracking technology has been increasingly been adopted into patient treatment plans.

Shorter sleep duration and both early and late sleep timing were associated with a higher mortality risk. These findings reinforce the importance of public health efforts to promote healthy sleep patterns in adults. https://ow.ly/cuJ750QTrGo

There is a general consensus that sleep parameters measured by wearable sleep-tracker devices are not error free. Moreover, to date, it is unclear to what extent we should trust their measurements within the context of a particular clinical or operational application. Here, researchers established a method to quantitatively assess whether sleep trackers are acceptable alternatives as part of a fatigue-management system for predicting alertness impairment.

It is National Sleep Awareness Week, which is dedicated to bring awareness to sleep disorders and the benefits of quality sleep. As the importance of sleep gains recognition, there's a burgeoning interest in wearable sleep technology, presenting promising avenues for enhancing consumers' sleep quality and overall health.

Wearable sleep technology offers unparalleled insights into one's nightly rest, serving as a bridge between consumers and medicine. Combining sleep tracking and personalized sleep enhancing recommendations has the potential to revolutionize how individuals manage and optimize their sleep.
