Today we tasted through the sparkling base wines that we make. One of these is for Harper Voit and the other EIGHT we produce for clients!

We chose to taste them blind. They were all so unique even though we treat them similarly for the most part. But the vineyard really tells the story.

We were looking for textures, flavors, phenolic and then guessing what varietal it was.

Cassidy guessed all the wines and clients 95% correct. NERD ALERT.

Get ready for some fun sparkling wines coming out of Oregon. Now and growing in the next few years.

We often get the question, “how long should we lay the Harper Voit wines down?”
It’s a hard question to answer, wine is subjective and aged wines are not for everyone. At what point are the wines at perfect balance?
If everyone could open the same bottle every year and evaluate its evolvement, would we share the same opinion about it? Probably not.

Drew made these wines when he was the Winemaker at Shea. They’re 15-17 years old and two very different growing seasons.
2010 being a longer growing season, with a October harvest and cooler temperatures, and 2008 being a much warmer vintage, earlier ripening.

They were both awesome!
Don’t be afraid to lay the wines down, but don’t be afraid to drink them “young”either.
