Cold weather is almost here. Residential structure fires become more common across the country during winter. Much of the furniture in our homes is made with synthetic materials, which are a major reason fires can grow and spread quickly in modern homes. If a fire occurs, you may have as little as 1 to 2 minutes to escape your home, as this time lapse shows.
Spokane County Fire District 9 encourages you to take time this weekend to talk with your family about your escape plan and practice it together.
✅ Identify two ways out of every room, if possible.
✅ Make sure doors, windows, and escape routes are clear.
✅ Choose an outside meeting place everyone knows.
✅ Test your smoke alarms.
