UPRIVER FIRE UPDATE

Firefighters continue to make steady progress on the Upriver Fire, with suppression and mop-up operations ongoing throughout the incident area.
Today, crews from Spokane County Fire District 9 and the Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) are working further into the interior of the fire perimeter to identify and extinguish remaining sources of heat. Efforts are primarily focused on holdover heat in stump holes and other areas that can produce rekindles.
Firefighters are utilizing a gridding operation, systematically searching the burned area with hand crews and engines to locate hot spots and ensure they are fully extinguished. While progress continues, crews are still finding and addressing areas of heat within the fire footprint.
Containment of the fire remains at 85%.
Level 1 evacuations remain in place for affected areas. Residents are encouraged to remain aware of changing conditions and continue to follow guidance from Spokane County Emergency Management and SREC.
Please continue to stay out of all areas marked with fire line tape. While the fire is largely contained, hidden hazards remain throughout the burned area, including hot spots, ash pits, stump holes, unstable trees, and other dangers that may not be immediately visible. Fire line tape has been placed for your safety, and we ask that everyone respect these closures and avoid entering restricted areas.
If you see smoke or any signs of fire activity, please call 911 immediately so firefighters can investigate. Even small amounts of smoke may indicate lingering heat or a potential rekindle and should be reported.
