Sign Language Isn’t the Same Around the World

This one isn’t surprising in the least. For one thing, we use different words and body language worldwide. For instance, you don’t nod your head for yes in India. It’s more of a wobble. That wouldn’t change if you were deaf. American Sign Language relies heavily on our alphabet, which wouldn’t work for many languages.
Obviously, certain words will be the same globally, but you can’t expect sign language to be the universal language. The truth is that there isn’t a universal language due to the variances in pronunciation and culture. I happen to think that’s a good thing. We should all strive to learn more about different cultures without becoming a vast melting pot of the same thing everywhere!
