My book loving client has been "peeling and the onion" lately and further curating categories around her home. Creating this lovely little vignette amongst her antique books made her very happy.🥰

Collections vs. multiples

Collections can appear as multiples. A curated collection makes us happy which is not always the case with multiples.

Practically speaking, this client had more mugs than needed for day to day or even a giant hot cocoa party, but they are a special collection that makes her happy.

When you come across multiples that aren't a curated collection, think through the scenarios to figure out the most that could possibly be needed. Sometimes we stock up on items to delay tasks we don't particularly like to do...like eating up leftovers and cleaning out the fridge. So we buy lots of tools for procrastination. Procrastination usually leads to feelings of anxiety and dread and turning mole hills into mountains. Food storage containers and underwear are common procrastination multiples.😘

Sometimes we have multiples because shopping gives us a short-lived dopamine hit.😏 The item might not really be needed or bring us long term esthetic joy.

Often clutter and excess cause us to have multiples without realizing it. We lose things and buy them again. 🙃 This is why curating by category helps to wrangle all the duplicates to take inventory.

There were multiple food storage containers in this kitchen. Many more than were needed for leftovers after even the biggest of all Thanksgiving meals. In letting go of the procrastination multiples in her kitchen, she prioritized the mug collection that make her coffee and tea time happy...and when our clients dwell happily, it makes us happy too.❤️

One of my favorite moments of home curation with clients is when they have the realization that they can use their best things each day and not save them for someday. What if you used your fancy things each day? You don't have to wait to invite your friends over for tea to use your favorite tea cups or a special occasion to wear your nice clothes. ✨

After months of curating their homes, this weekend two of our clients hosted holiday parties after being too overwhelmed to host friends and family for some time. Receiving their excited and grateful messages are true gifts this Christmas. Merry Christmas, friends!✨

In today's book session, my client let go of 8 boxes of books.🙌🏼 She had many books about tidying clutter, which is typical of my clients. If you have these kinds of books, but are still struggling, it's not only ok to ask for help, it's admirable. Asking for help is courageous and wise.❤️

Messages like these from clients are just THE BEST.🥰

We helped two homes curate their book "hall of fames" in the past week. 30 boxes of books are being passed on to new readers.

It's ok to read a book once and let it go. It's also ok to read one half way and let it go. It's even ok to haven't read one at all and let it go if it no longer interests you. Our interests change and it's ok for your book collection to evolve too. Creating a live and active book collection enables us to more easily catch the moment that books interest us rather than let them collect dust while we wait to read them someday.

Hope to see you there!
