How can ITIL training hurt your implementation?
When ITIL training organizations lack the ability to provide
qualified instructors with real-life IT Service Management experience.
The best ITIL instructors must be capable of pulling from their backgrounds to provide examples of processes and continual service improvement to promote customer service, develop soft skills, and encourage service-oriented thinking.
Your ITIL trainer should understand the importance of developing students’ skills, so that they can excel in their role of making infrastructure and operations work as a true service provider to both, internal and external clients.
Additionally, ITIL trainers must acknowledge a client’s corporate standard for auditing and certifying its Service Management capabilities, i.e. ISO/IEC 20000, etc. Since ITIL is not an isolated exercise, ITIL training must complement other corporate programs, standards, frameworks, governance and models in order to deliver transformational value.
You will know that you selected the right ITIL trainer if they have an unwavering commitment to your success. Great trainers take pride in knowing that the students they teach will contribute to successful ITIL implementations, delivering compelling value for the organizations they support. If required, trainers, or the companies they represent, must be capable of leading successful implementations to achieve the objectives of senior management.
Finally, implementing ITIL can cause a dramatic change in the way you do business. It is therefore vital to have both, a great training company with passionate, knowledgeable instructors, AND executive-level, program sponsorship to gain buy-in from enterprise-wide stakeholders. This will truly help you to achieve a successful implementation and realize the operational value that ITIL programs promise.
