Export is devastated to learn of the line of duty death of MSP Trooper Tamar Bucci. Our thoughts this morning are with her family and fellow troopers as we process this tragic and senseless loss of life. Unfortunately this tragedy reminds us of the dangers we all face every day while in service to the Commonwealth.

Trooper Bucci is not just a friend to us; and we are heartbroken by this devastating loss to someone we knew and worked along side with. We would like to extend heartfelt prayers and thoughts to all. We ask for everyone to keep her family in their thoughts and prayers during this immensely difficult time.

A snow emergency in the City of Somerville will go into effect at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 24. Beginning at 7:30 p.m., cars will have four hours (until 11:30 p.m.) to move to the ODD-numbered side of the street. Any exceptions will be noted by nearby signs. Residents are free to begin moving their cars to the odd side at any time.

Designated City parking lots are also available for snow emergency parking starting at 7:30 p.m. p.m. For a full list of available City-owned parking lots, visit somervillema.gov/snow. Parking is not allowed in school lots during snow emergencies and gates will be locked. To avoid having your vehicle locked in a school lot, ticketed, and towed, vacate all school lots before 11:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 24.

If you do use City lots, please note that all cars must be moved within 2 hours of the end of the emergency. Snow emergencies can be lifted at any time, including during work hours, so if you are unable to move your car out of a City lot at potentially short notice, please consider finding alternative parking.

Bike lanes and cycle tracks will be plowed as part of our snow removal and specialized tractors will be deployed for this purpose; however, during and immediately after a storm, bike lanes may have ice and snow buildup. Please help us keep streets and bike lanes clear by not shoveling snow into them. Please also bear with us if you observe plow damage to flex posts used for bike and pedestrian infrastructure. A certain amount of flex post loss is expected during snow removal. Posts will be replaced in the spring.

Unfortunately the cold doesn’t deter criminals and catalytic converter thefts are still prevalent. The vehicles that are most often targeted are older model Toyota Prius’, Honda CR-Vs, Accords, Elements and also Ford trucks. Please read the prevention tips below, especially if you own any of the vehicles mentioned.

✅ Park only in well-lit areas
✅ Install a protective device to make it harder for thieves to cut out
✅ Set up a vibration triggering alarm system
✅ Have your VIN number etched onto your catalytic converter
✅ Consider using bright, anti-theft spray paint

As always, if you see something suspicious, please say something. Call us at 781-395-1212 with any information.

⚠️❄️We made it through the morning commute, but according to US National Weather Service Boston MA we are heading into a flash freeze as temperatures keep dropping. This will result in dangerous travel due to icy road conditions. If you have to be on the roads, please allow plenty of extra time and drive slow. Check out Mass511.com for the latest road conditions.

We don't plan to call a snow emergency, but we want to remind everyone to be careful on their Friday morning commute. Crews will be out tonight and tomorrow morning pre-treating the roads, but roads and sidewalks may be slippery in the morning so give yourself some extra time and go slow. You can help out your neighbors who rely on our sidewalks to get around by pre-treating them tonight.
