JONATHAN COOKE
For the past thirty years, Jonathan has studied, researched and experimented extensively with traditional glass painting techniques of all periods.
Jonathan Cooke ACR served a four year apprenticeship at the York Glaziers Trust where he learnt the traditional techniques and methods for the creation, conservation and restoration of stained glass, working on the restoration of York Minister following the fire of 1984. Current projects include: Sir John Soane's Museum, Durham Museum and the Royal Academy of Dance. His conservation and restoration of the armorial glass at Ordsall Hall for Salford Museums formed part of the 2012 RICS award winning conservation project. Jonathan serves on multiple Diocesan Advisory Committees and the Stained Glass Committee of the Church Building Council.
Jonathan will conduct daily demonstrations on glass painting using a technique whereby a number of layers of paint can be built up prior to firing. He will also cover/discuss materials, tools, firing schedules, silver stain and enamels.
What people have said about his previous courses..... "Jonathan Cooke's friendly and open minded style combined with his well informed knowledge of the subject, inspires both confidence and enthusiasm. The course is/was without question a must for all who seek to expand their knowledge of glass painting and conservation techniques." "Jonathan's wealth of knowledge, skill and experience provide the foundation from which he teaches with great clarity and generosity. I have found his masterclasses to be both stimulating and liberating, enabling me to learn new glass painting skills whilst challenging and consolidating existing ones. I always welcome the opportunity to learn from him".
