Considered the site of the country's first designated park, Cypress Street Playground (formerly Cypress Field) was founded in 1871. The land was deeded to "be used, improved, and maintained for public use forever, as and for a Public Square, Common or Play Ground and not otherwise."

One hundred fifty-two years later, Cypress Street Playground is still a thriving neighborhood park with a variety of recreational uses. Recently, the site has undergone extensive renovation and includes a new, modern playground with a fresh design and innovative elements.

The Playground design at North Kingstown Town Beach includes the new BeachComber™ Playstructure from Structures Inc. The BeachComber™ is a nautical-inspired design that reflects the constant movement of the ocean with flowy posts and dynamic climbers offered only on this plays tructure design. Corrosion can be severe in climates where salt water and salt spray can break down certain materials such as steel. The Hot Dip Galvanized (HDG) and stainless steel shown on the playground here, provides an extra layer of corrosion protection in harsh coastal environments and provides a cool, modern aesthetic.
