🐿️ Cute? Yes. Destructive? Also yes.

Mike squeezed his way through a very tight attic and found a squirrel that had been busy chewing on material around the home. You can even catch a quick glimpse of the little culprit crawling around.

This is why attic inspections matter. Wildlife can look harmless, but once they are inside, they can damage insulation, wiring, piping, and other building materials.

And yes… sometimes getting to the problem is half the battle. 😅

Aliases: Black Rat. Ship Rat. Professional Attic Squatter. 😂

Charges include:
-Breaking & entering. Attic trespassing. Wire chewing. Insulation destruction. Food contamination. And, of course, disturbing the peace at 2 A.M.
-Roof rats are especially well suited for life above ground. They're excellent climbers and can use trees, fences, utility lines and other routes to reach a home's roofline.
-From there, small openings can provide access to attics and other protected spaces.

And if you've ever wondered why the scratching seems to start the second you go to bed… roof rats are primarily nocturnal. 🌙

One important thing we tell homeowners: removing the rat is only part of solving a rodent problem.

You also need to figure out HOW it got inside. A proper inspection can identify potential entry points so they can be addressed and help prevent the next rat from simply taking its place.

It is a good reminder that roof rats can get much larger than people expect, and when they are inside a home, the goal is not just trapping them—it is also finding how they got in and sealing those entry points.

What are these bats doing gathered near the old entry point?

This is James showing what can happen after a **bat cone** is installed. The bats may return to the area where they were previously getting into the home, but the **one-way device prevents them from getting back inside**.

That is exactly what these temporary bat cones are designed to do:
✔️allow bats to leave
✔️ prevent re-entry
✔️ support a legal, humane exclusion process

It may look dramatic, but this can actually be a sign that the exclusion is working and the bats are being forced to move on instead of re-entering the structure.

Suspect apprehended: Raccoon.
Alias: Trash Bandit.
Charges: Breaking & entering, attic trespassing, property destruction, food theft… and disturbing the peace after dark. 😂

They may look innocent in the mugshot, but raccoons are smart, strong and excellent climbers. They can take advantage of vulnerable areas around roofs, vents, soffits and other openings to get into places they definitely weren't invited.

And once a raccoon decides your home looks comfortable, the damage can become much more than a little midnight mischief.

If you're hearing unusual noises overhead, noticing damage around your roofline, or suspect something has moved in, don't just seal the opening. You want to know what's inside—and make sure it's handled properly—before closing off an entry point.
