2026 HVAC Refrigerant Update: Regulations, Replacements & Readiness

The HVAC industry is now operating under new refrigerant requirements. With the EPA’s Technology Transitions Rule in effect, new residential and light commercial systems must use refrigerants with a GWP of 700 or less, accelerating the shift away from R-410A.

As A2L and lower-GWP refrigerants move into the mainstream, contractors, facility managers, and BAS integrators must adapt to updated safety practices, detection, and system monitoring requirements.
