Well, August didn’t wait for me, and apparently, neither did this month's newsletter! While it may not have made it to JC Business Consulting subscribers inboxes on August 1, it's here now. And in the spirit of this month’s message: sometimes the best time to start is simply NOW.

In this month's edition I discuss August being Black Business Month, Women's Equality Day, and Give 8/28 for nonprofits.

This month I'm also celebrating my business bestie (although she doesn't know it yet), Ms. Oprah Winfrey. From launching HARPO Productions, Inc. and building ownership around her work to becoming one of the most recognizable businesswomen and media leaders in the world, Oprah’s journey reminds me that success is about more than having a seat at someone else’s table. Sometimes, it’s about having the courage to build your own table.

It was an honor to speak to the 2026 graduating class of ACAP participants through the National Association of Black Accountants (NABA) Memphis Chapter's NABA Memphis Accelerated Career Awareness Program. During this incredible week-long experience at the University of Memphis, I had the privilege of leading a session on Resume Building & Creating a Strong LinkedIn Presence.

I can honestly say this was one of the most engaged groups of high school students I've had the opportunity to speak with. They asked thoughtful questions, participated in every discussion, and were genuinely committed to making sure their resumes and LinkedIn profiles reflected the bright futures they're working toward.

Looking around the room, I saw future nurses, biologists, entrepreneurs, service professionals, counselors, social workers, accountants, and so many other aspiring leaders. Their ambition, curiosity, and willingness to learn were inspiring.

Thank you to the National Association of Black Accountants (NABA) Memphis Chapter for investing in the next generation through ACAP and for allowing me to be a small part of their journey.

Success in business isn’t just about working hard but staying open to growth, change, and new opportunities. Here are five things I’ve learned to embrace as an entrepreneur:

1️⃣ Starting a Side Business or Side Hustle
One income stream is good. Multiple streams can create stability, expand your skills, and open doors you never expected.

2️⃣ Asking for Help
The strongest entrepreneurs know they don’t have all the answers. Seek mentors, collaborate with others, and never let pride limit your growth.

3️⃣ Trying Something New
The strategy that worked yesterday may not work tomorrow. Be willing to test new ideas, pivot, innovate, and step outside your comfort zone.

4️⃣ Saying “No” to the Wrong Clients
Not every opportunity is the right opportunity. Protect your time, your peace, and your brand by working with clients who align with your values and expertise.

5️⃣ Finding Additional Side Hustles or Revenue Streams
Think beyond your primary service. Digital products, consulting, workshops, affiliate partnerships, speaking engagements, or passive income can help strengthen your business for the future.

Growth happens when you’re willing to remain teachable, adaptable, and open to new possibilities. Your next level may not require working harder, but simply requires thinking differently.

Today marks the 19th anniversary of the first iPhone being introduced to the world on June 29, 2007.

It made me stop and think...

Too often, we compare our Day 1 or Year 2 to someone else's Year 10, 15, or 20. We see the success, the recognition, and the results, but we don't always see the years of learning, refining, pivoting, and staying consistent.

The iPhone didn't become what it is overnight. It evolved through innovation, strategic planning, continuous improvements, and a commitment to meeting the needs of its customers.

The same is true for your business.

Whether you're launching your first product, introducing a new service, or trying to gain traction, don't underestimate the power of having the right strategy. Even if you're building your business on your own, strategy matters. Consistency matters. Sustainability matters.

Ask yourself:
If you compared your first product or service in Year 1 to what you're offering today, how much have you grown?

Growth isn't always about moving faster. Sometimes it's about building something that will still be creating impact five, ten, or even twenty years from now.

Maybe this is your season to:
✔️ Thrive
✔️ Strive
✔️ Elevate
✔️ Restructure
✔️ Rebrand

Whatever season you're in, don't stop moving forward.

The time is now to put your business strategy into motion and prepare for what's next. Your future success depends on the decisions and consistency you choose today. Ready to stop guessing and start growing? Let's put the right strategies in place to move your business forward. www.IamJennChristian.com

Last year, I was blessed to be selected as a participant in the Goldman Sachs One Million Black Women: Black in Business Program as a member of the Fall 2025 Cohort 8. I had no idea then just how transformational this experience would be.

This program challenged me to think bigger, dream bolder, and strategically position my businesses for growth. It connected me with an incredible network of brilliant Black women entrepreneurs who continue to inspire me every day.

Today, I am deeply honored and humbled to have come full circle by serving on the Selection Committee and interviewing candidates for the next cohort. Being able to help identify and encourage the next generation of Black women CEOs and business leaders is a privilege I don't take lightly.

I am forever grateful to the Goldman Sachs Black in Business Team at Initiative for a Competitive Inner City (ICIC) for their unwavering commitment to investing in Black women entrepreneurs and creating opportunities for us to elevate to the next level in our businesses and communities.

Congratulations to the next cohort of inspiring CEOs! Your journey is just beginning, and I can't wait to see the impact you make. Dream big, lean into the process, and seize every opportunity that comes your way.

Thank you, Goldman Sachs One Million Black Women: Black in Business, for changing lives, including mine.

Welcome to June! The June JC Business Consulting newsletter is out now!

Excerpt: "As summer arrives, many business owners find themselves asking the same question: "Why has business slowed down?" While some organizations are moving and shaking, launching new products, expanding services, and closing deals, others may be experiencing what many call the "summer business blues" - a season where customer engagement slows, vacations increase, and revenue becomes less predictable. If that sounds familiar, you're not alone."

In this edition, I talk about moving, shaking and pivoting in your business and if you're on the fence about starting your next business - you should subscribe and read more. Tag someone on the fence and let's connect.
