One of the first questions after property damage is pretty simple: What happened?
That answer matters more than you might think.

A wet floor from a leaking appliance isn't necessarily approached the same way as water coming through a roof during a storm. Smoke damage presents different concerns than a room affected by a plumbing leak.

Before you can decide what needs to happen next, you have to understand where the damage came from and what areas may have been affected.

Restoration isn't just about fixing what you can see. It starts with understanding what caused it in the first place.

If something happened to your home while you were away, could someone else tell us where everything is?

It’s something most homeowners probably haven’t thought about.

Where is the water shutoff? Where is the electrical panel? Is there an attic or crawlspace access? Are there pets in the home? Is there a spare key or someone nearby who can get inside?

You don’t need a complicated emergency plan. But making sure another trusted person knows a few basics about your home can be incredibly helpful when you can’t be there yourself.

Hopefully, it’s information they’ll never need.
Have a great weekend, Memphis!

Damage can leave a home looking pretty overwhelming in the beginning.

These photos are from a DRR project and show some of the damage we started with—and the restored space after the work was complete.

There’s a lot of work between those first photos and the finished result. Removing damaged materials, cleaning, repairing, rebuilding and putting the pieces back together are all part of the process.

Seeing a home reach that final stage is one of the most rewarding parts of what we do.

Do you know where your home’s main water shutoff is?

It’s a simple question—but it’s one you don’t want to be figuring out while water is actively coming into your home.

Depending on your home, the shutoff may be located inside or outside near the water meter. Knowing where yours is before an emergency happens can save valuable time if a pipe bursts, a supply line fails, or another plumbing problem sends water where it shouldn’t be.

Take a few minutes to locate yours, learn how to shut the water off, and make sure everyone in your household who may need it knows where it is too.

A little preparation can make a big difference when every minute counts.

Sometimes restoration has to look worse before it looks better.

When damaged materials have to come out, there can be a stage where a room looks a lot more like a construction zone than a home.

But this is an important part of the process. Removing what can't be saved, getting access to the areas that need attention, and preparing everything properly is what allows the rebuilding to begin.

There are a lot of steps between discovering damage and seeing a finished room again. This is one of them.

Not every milestone in a restoration project makes for a dramatic before-and-after photo.

Sometimes it’s getting everything completely dry. Sometimes it’s finishing a repair, putting a room back together, or simply checking one more thing off the list.

Those smaller steps are what eventually get a family from “What are we going to do?” back to “We’re home.”

That’s always the goal.

Just because something feels dry doesn’t always mean it is.

After water damage, the surface of a wall, floor, or cabinet can feel completely dry while moisture is still trapped underneath or behind it.

That hidden moisture is one of the reasons properly drying a home is about more than cleaning up the water you can see.

When we’re dealing with water damage, we’re not just looking at the surface. The goal is to make sure the affected areas are actually dry before repairs move forward.

A quick tip we hope you never need: take the pictures first.

If your home is damaged and it's safe to do so, take photos before you start moving things or cleaning up.

Get a few wide shots of the room, closer pictures of the damage, and photos of affected belongings.

When something unexpected happens, it's easy to immediately start cleaning. Taking a few minutes to document everything first can give you a much better record of what happened.

Have a great weekend, Memphis!

Most people have never called a restoration company before they need one.
And when they do, they usually have a lot of questions.

How bad is it? What happens next? Can this be fixed? Where do we even start?

We’ve answered those questions a lot over the years. You don’t need to know how restoration works before you call us. Helping you understand what comes next is part of our job.
